Melody McKiver

Melody McKiver is an Anishinaabe musician, interdisciplinary media artist, and writer based in Ottawa. Melody is Anishinaabe of mixed heritage, with ancestry in Obishikokaang Wemitigoozhiiwitigwaaning Lac Seul First Nation. Melody holds an MA in Ethnomusicology at the Memorial University of Newfoundland (2014) and is a graduate of York University (2010), with an Honours BFA in Music, Minor in Race, Ethnicity, and Indigeneity. Melody is committed to volunteering and organizing with Two-Spirited, Indigenous, and artistic communities. They organize with Niigaan: In Conversation, are a board member of Gallery 101 artist-run centre, and are part of the committee for Asinabka Film & Media Arts Festival. Melody writes for RPM.fm, is affiliated with Tribal Spirit Music, and plays drums with Toronto’s Indigenous hip-hop fusion band Red Slam Collective.
